Christmas in Garfiled
Help us spread the love and joy this Hoilday season in the Garfield Neighborhood.
WHY Garfield:
The Garfield Neighborhood is one of Phoenix’s original Barrios. The neighborhood was developed from 1883 to 1955 as one of the first additions to Phoenix’s original townsites.
Before becoming a residential neighborhood, Garfield was part of an extensive agricultural tract but as Phoenix grew so did Garfield. With that growth came a long & rich history of working class families with deep traditions within Latinx culture.
Today, the Garfield neighborhood is a bit of a paradox. On one side of the spectrum there is rapid growth and development which makes it a highly sought after neighborhood to live in with medium home values at $500k. On the other end of the spectrum are the working classes families who have called the Barrio of Garfield home for decades & with any rapid growth there is always a chance for those families to be displaced and marginalized. So, to say the least, we have some important work to do in making sure that doesn’t happen.
